At McCusker’s Marketing, we believe that the independent garden center and the local farm, and gathering places like the winery are vital community anchors. Our mission is to help these horticultural and agricultural businesses grow, thrive, and become places people return to and gather year after year. 

We know your world because we live in it. From our family roots in horticulture marketing to our years of experience helping independent businesses thrive in their communities, we know what works and what doesn’t work in marketing for independent garden centers, agritourism farms, and wineries.

Just like growing plants runs in your family, marketing runs in ours.

Growing up, I thought my dad built sailboats for a living. After all, he was always talking about "sails."

Imagine my surprise when I found out he was actually talking about "sales"—and that he was in marketing for Sherwin Williams Paints.

I grew up learning about market research, consumer trends, and advertising. I graduated with a degree in Strategic Communication and Creative Writing from The Ohio State University and went to work on copy management and messaging for Abbott Nutrition and Nationwide Insurance. 

Meanwhile, from the 1980s through the early 2000s, my mother-in-law was running television ads for garden centers in the greater Dayton, Ohio region.

When I met her in my early twenties, I was working as a freelance writer, and it was because of her that I was introduced to the world of independent garden centers. She saw me as the bridge between the "old" ways of advertising and the "new" ways that were emerging.

Today, McCusker’s Marketing exists to help make America a more beautiful place by strengthening the independent garden center, the family agritainment farm, and gathering places like wineries. Our mission is to help local plant-centered businesses grow and thrive for generations to come.
